Our classrooms embrace and encourage creativity, community, and diversity. We will ensure that every student leaves their fine arts’ class knowing that their voice matters and that they are an essential part of our class and ensemble.

Arts Faculty

My name is Mrs. Austin and I am the art teacher at both Pine Island and Stoney Creek Elementary. I am starting my 8th year teaching elementary art. I love working with the younger students and encouraging them to create and explore new materials. In K-5th grade art, I scaffold a range of mediums so that all students will have a variety of opportunities to create as they progress through elementary school. I also teach the elements of art so that each student will develop an art vocabulary that they can utilize while talking about their own artwork as well as others art. I incorporate artists in my curriculum from throughout history by utilizing visual thinking strategies that encourage students to think critically of artwork. With each unit, I try to encourage critical thinking, discussion, problem solving, experimentation, and application. I think that art is a powerful tool for communication and self-awareness and a great way to learn about each other.

Whitney Goulooze Headshot

My Name is Whitney Goulooze. I am the art and design teacher at Mill Creek Middle School. I teach 6th, 7th and 8th graders. At the middle school level I teach a variety of projects which are different per year. Two- and three-dimensional projects in class are designed to increase the student’s technical and perceptual ability within a variety of visual/drawing-based approaches. Students will use a range of materials creatively to design and make projects. Drawing, painting, carving, plastering, burning, melting, clay and sculpture are just a few examples of forms used to develop and share ideas, experiences, and imagination. Students will also work to develop a wide range of art and design techniques through the use of color, pattern, texture, line, shape, form, balance and space. At the end of every school year I host a week-long Student Art Show to showcase all my students' work located in the Mill Creek BoardRoom.
